The surrounding stone villages

The villages along the Tarn, whether perched on the hillside or on the water's edge, are seductive in their authenticity.

From Peyre, between Millau and Sainte Enimie, they're all worth a visit.

  • Peyre: a troglodyte village at the foot of the viaduct, between rock and river, with its cliffs, its dazzling view of the Millau viaduct, one of the most beautiful villages in France.
  • Compeyre, a medieval village perched on the banks of the Tarn, with an air of Provence and a winegrower's soul.
  • Peyreleau: Discover Peyreleau, Petite Cité de Caractère, a medieval village at the gateway to the Gorges du Tarn.
Peyreleau, where 3 major Causses meet: the Causse Noir, the Causse de Sauveterre and the Causse Méjean, separated by impressive canyons: the Gorges du Tarn and the Gorges de la Jonte.
  • Mostuejouls and its diversity, with its many hamlets on the Causse or by the water, medieval villages with cobbled streets and 2 listed Romanesque churches. Liaucous night market on Tuesday evenings in summer.
  • Le Rozier, a stopover village at the very entrance to the Tarn and Jonte gorges, our neighboring village: dynamic shops, 12th-century monastic church. Night market on Wednesday evenings in summer.
  • La Malène, Petite Cité de Caractère in the heart of the Gorges du Tarn: its heritage, its boatmen.
  • Sainte Enimie, a medieval town listed as one of France's most beautiful villages. Its cobbled streets, typical houses and 6th-century monastery. The legend of a princess.
  • Saint Chély du Tarn (commune of Sainte Enimie), the postcard of the Tarn gorges.

Not to be missed:

  • La Sablière, La Croze, Hauterives, on the left bank of the Tarn.

These hamlets have no bridges. To reach them, you have to go by boat, and a gondola carries your goods. The houses in these hamlets date back to the 11th century and have retained their original features.
